Google Friend Connect has just pushed live an implementation with Twitter, allowing you to see which of the people you follow on the service are members of sites that have Friend Connect enabled. Additionally, you can notify your Twitter followers that you’ve joined a new site through the “Invite” link, which lets you send a Tweet about it. This is a big win for Friend Connect. One of the problems with the service so far - especially for people who use their Gmail IDs to sign-in - is that the friends list is far different than that you’d have on a social site like Twitter, because it’s based largely on who you communicate with via email. With Twitter integration, Friend Connect now functions more like Facebook Connect, where the friend’s list is representative of your actual friends – or, at least people you’ve explicitly opted-into an online relationship with. Of course, Twitter is many magnitudes smaller than Facebook in terms of total membership, but it should be a nice addition to the tech community, where the Friend Connect widget has been popping up on blogs far and wide, and most people have a Twitter account. To sync Twitter with your Friend Connect account, you simply go to your “Settings” page upon logging in, which, conveniently enough can be done from the widget on Mashable’s sidebar.
